Qs and As

This page is a collection of frequently asked questions for students. Some of this information will be moved to the documentation itself.

When does the project start?

When you have a project and a people you can start any time of the year.

What is the exact schedule for the course?

I do not know. You will define that in your project plan, and the client might approve it. It is up to you.

Can I do the project for my employee?

Yes. The project materials can even be proprietary or confidential, as long as the course staff will be allowed to review it without restrictions and without signing NDA:s or taking other similar restrictive actions.

What deliverables are needed for completing the project?

Project plan and Final report are the most essential documents. Depending on the project and number of personnel participating in the project, also the following aspects of the project have to be documented: Requirements, Design and Testing. One review memo (or minutes) per project participant has to be written (each participant has to review one document written by an another project member). Some code has to be also scrutinized under formal review.

What is required from the client?

A person with time to participate in project meetings at least once a week. Non-proprietary goal to produce software with no financial aims. Technical support in problem areas. Those should be enough. Hardest part is to attract the students to do that project. They have the freedom of choice. ;)

Can I get paid for the project?

That is up to the client.

Who makes up these project themes?

They are mostly non-critical tasks related to some state funded projects with no financial aims, provided by different research groups here at the University of Oulu.

Can this course be used in post-graduate studies?

Yes.
